Guidelines for assessing the risk to groundwater from on-site sanitation ARGOSS (2001)
Guidelines for Assessing the Risk to Groundwater from On–Site Sanitation (ARGOSS) were developed to provide guidance on how to assess and reduce the risk of contamination of groundwater supplies from on–site sanitation systems and are aimed at those responsible for planning low cost water supply and sanitation schemes.
The manual was developed by the BGS, the Robens Centre for Public and Environmental Health, the Geology Department, University of Dhaka and the Civil Engineering Department of Makerere University, Kampala.
It was field-tested in collaboration with staff from the Department of Public Health Engineering of the Government of Bangladesh, Terre Des Hommes, WaterAid, the World Health Organisation and UNICEF in Bangladesh and Action Contre Faim, Ruwasa, WaterAid in Uganda. This work was carried out between 1999 and 2003.
