Short Bio

Carla is a specialist in water and sanitation (WASH). In 2015, she obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and international development from the University of Vienna, Austria. From 2017 to 2018, she studied a master's degree at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, where she obtained a degree in water and sanitation engineering. Carla has several years of experience around WASH, gender, and climate change, including field work, data analysis and remote management in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Currently, she is part of the group of researchers at the Stockholm Environment Institute and represents this entity in the sanitation working groups in the region such as SuSana and the Santiation and Water for All Alliance (SWA). While Carla enjoys both the technical and social aspects of the water and sanitation sector, her work focuses on the integration of marginalized and underrepresented groups in water and sanitation decision-making processes through co-creation methodologies and analytical tools.

Motivation/Commitment to the GSC

I look forward to becoming a member of the Global Steering Committee for the Latin America region to ensure that the issues, needs and knowledge on sustainable sanitation and climate change of the region are highlighted and taken into account in the decision-making process at a global scale. To achieve this, I will promote spaces in which practitioners, academics, activists, and young leaders can bring local and regional knowledge and skills to the table. I also look forward to creating a stronger bond with other regions to align our efforts and accelerate action for climate resilience through sustainable sanitation efforts.

Is there anything else you would like to say to the SuSanA community?

In the face of climate change, let’s work together to advance efforts on sustainable sanitation by sharing knowledge, skills and passion!
