Improving Sanitation Data Systems in South Asia 10.04.2024 • 09:00 - 10:30 (BST)
Zoom

This webinar cuts across different IWA’s initiatives, programmes and communities. It is being led by the IWA’s Inclusive Urban Sanitation Initiative and the Water Policy and Regulation Agenda, in collaboration with the Center for Water and Sanitation, CRDF, CEPT University, and WHO.

According to the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), as of 2022, global usage of on-site sanitation stands at 46%, surpassing sewer connections at 42%. However, the prevalence of safely managed sanitation services is notably higher among households with sewer connections (33%) compared to those relying on on-site facilities (24%). Unfortunately, current data inadequacies prevent the estimation of regional or global proportions of individuals utilising on-site sanitation facilities with excreta emptied and treated off-site.

It is imperative to strengthen local data systems to monitor progress accurately and establish targets for safely managed sanitation services. This webinar aims to spotlight diverse initiatives aimed at strengthening sanitation data systems in South Asia. Insights and experiences collected from the implementation of water and sanitation data systems are invaluable for low- and middle-income countries.
