Theun Hinboun Power Company Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Plant (DEWATS) To provide solutions for wastewater treatment for the operational staff camps, office and school of Theun Hinboun Power Company. Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association, BORDA

A wastewater treatment plant has already been in place. However the mechanical activated sludge system that was used between 1995 and 2009 was not working anymore, due to high costs as well as a lack of knowledge to operate the system and replace spare parts. Furthermore it was odorous during the treatment process and the effluent wastewater quality was not complying with the discharge standard. It was effected directly to the nearest office buildings, especially the clinic of the site camp.

In order to address the problem, the company requested support from BORDA to implemented the DEWATS to treat the wastewater from camps, offices and the school. The DEWATS treatment modules include the Settler, Anaerobic Baffled Reactor, Anaerobic Filter, Horizoltal Planted Gravel Filter and the Aerobic Pond and Ultra Violet purifer. In order to operate the treatment system, THPC assigned 3 staffs from the maintenance team to work on the DEWATS O&M. The team was trained in the beginning to disseminate information required. Regular schedules for O&M were made for cleaning the grease trap, the control box and the DEWATS plant (checking up solid waste in the anaerobic chambers and removing dried plant from planted gravel filter). Moreover, observing the UV monitor to ensure that it is working regularly and give trainings on how to change the UV bulb each year in theguarantee period for an optimized function of the system.
