Impact Assessment Report on the Peepoo Bag, Silanga Village, Kibera, Nairobi-Kenya Ondieki, T.H.M., Mbegera, M. (2009)

An estimated 600 million people in urban areas of developing countries now live in life and health-threatening homes and neighborhoods, primarily in peri-urban settlements. Peri-urban areas are characterized by uncertain land tenure, inferior infrastructure, low incomes, and lack of recognition by formal governments. The rapid growth and informal status of these highdensity population areas have resulted in low levels of sanitation services.
