After achieving the target of universal coverage of individual household toilet, Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin is working towards addressing the menace of solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) to ensure clean and healthy villages.
Government of Chhattisgarh has taken a sustainable approach to address solid and liquid waste in the state. SBM-G has adopted decentralized processes for waste management and conservation of natural resources. The Program is in line with the State’s flagship Program “Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa and Baadi” (NGGB). Both programs aim to derive value from waste & contribute to the rural economy besides achieving their main objective of making the villages clean.
For planning and implementation of the program, SLWM strategy document has been drafted. It gives a clear road map to cover the entire state within a period of 4 years. It lays emphasis on building community awareness, capacity building and behavioural change communication. The strategy document also covers the management of faecal sludge, which is critical considering the large number of toilets constructed by the state.
