Kim Bang Hospital Wastewater Treatment Plant Decentralized Wastewater Treatment for Kim Bang District Hospital in Ha Nam province, Vietnam

Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association
BORDA

The Kim Bang General Hospital wastewater treatment plant is one of the 25 operating DEWATS constructed with the support of BORDA in Vietnam.
Kim Bang General Hospital has long been considered to be a major source of environmental pollution in Ha Nam province. Instead of being treated adequately, all wastewater from the 250-bed hospital was either discharged into underground tanks or onto the surrounding fields. To satisfy the requirements of hospital patients and surrounding neighborhoods, and to be able to comply with environmental standards, BORDA has worked out a new innovative wastewater treatment solution that enables the hospital to treat its wastewater cheap and effectively. The DEWATS technology – a modern method that uses microorganisms already present in the water together with a natural disintegration process and its effect on wastewater - meet the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment´s regulations on the BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) index (QCVN 28:2010/ BTNMT). Currently, the treatment plant is operated and maintained by the staff of hospital who were trained by the BORDA´s technical staff. The technical maintenance such as desludging of the anaerobic unit and sedimentation tank is commissioned to professional institutions.

Treatment capacity: 125 m³/day
Effluent Quality, COD: 80 mg/l
Total area req.: 880 m²
