Goalanda Municipality is located within the Goalanda Sub-district of Rajbari District, which is under Dhaka Division. This municipality was established in 2000. It is located at south central part of Bangladesh and about 95 km (through Daulatdia) away from the Dhaka City. The geographical coordinates of Goalanda are between latitudes 23°41'N and 23°50'N and longitudes 89°41'E and 89°51'E. Goalanda Upazila is bordered on the north by the upazilas of Bera and Shibalaya, on the south by the upazilas of Faridpur Sadar and Rajbari Sadar, on the east by the upazilas of Shibalaya and Harirampur, and on the west by the upazila of Rajbari Sadar.
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the population of Goalanda Municipality was 24,151. The urban population growth in Goalanda is 2.8% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 28,595.
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only nineteen percent (19%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining eighty one percent (81%) is classified as unsafely managed.
