SFD (Lite) Report - Gafargaon Municipality CWIS-FSM Support Cell, DPHE (2023)
Gafargaon Municipality is located within the Gafargaon Sub-District (Upazila) situated in the Mymensingh District (Zila) under Mymensingh Division. The geographical coordinates of Gafargaon are 24°25' 55.20"N and 90° 33' 30.60"E.
On the north, it is bordered by the Upazilas of Trishal and Nandail, on the south, by the Upazilas of Kapasia and Sreepur (Gazipur), on the east, by the Upazilas of Hossainpur and Pakundia, and on the west, by the Upazilas of Trishal, Bhaluka, and Sreepur (Gazipur).
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the Gafargaon city population was 29,325 the urban population growth in Gafargaon is 2.94% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 45,671 (Table 1). The household survey results show that majority of the occupation is business (44%), followed by private service (24%) and labourer (14%).
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only 9% of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining ninety one percent (91%) is classified as unsafely managed.
