SFD (Lite) Report - Kalaroa Municipality CWIS-FSM Support Cell, DPHE (2023)
Kalaroa Municipality is located within the Kalaroa Sub-District (Upazila) situated in the Satkhira District (Zila) under Khulna Division. The geographical coordinates of Kalaroa are between 22°48' and 22°57' north latitudes and in between 88°54' and 89°09' east longitudes. It is bordered on the north by the sharsha, jhikargachha, and manirampur Upazilas, on the south by the satkhira sadar and the tala Upazilas, on the east by the kobadak river, and on the west by the west bengal state of India.
According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the Kalaroa city population was 27,250 the urban population growth in Kalaroa is 1.19% per year. As per information obtained from KII at the Municipality, the present population is around 30,777 (Table 1). The total male population within the Municipality is 14,967, and the total female population is 15,801. Thus, the ratio of male to female is 0.95:1. The household survey results show that majority of the occupation is business (32%), followed by private service (23%) and agriculture (23%). The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only twenty one percent (21%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining seventy nine percent (79%) is classified as unsafely managed.
