EVI has been commissioned by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for carrying out a technical and financial analysis for opportunities and obstacles associated with various FS to energy processing options. This project is focus for urban India and the title of project is “Waste to Energy Technical and Financial Analysis, India”.
The following reports are presented below. A brief description of these reports are provided below:-
1) Faecal sludge management in India: - A State of Play Report:-The State of play report is the outcome of research work on the status of existing practices of fecal sludge management in India. This study focused on urban population not connected to piped sewer system. This provides an overview of current Fecal sludge management in urban India along with key programs and policies. This also provides a list of technologies for faecal sludge to energy conversion.
2) Technical and Financial analysis for energy recovery from FS:- Five different technologies namely Gasification, Hydrothermal Carbonization, Pyrolysis, Anaerobic Digestion and Fermentation have been evaluated for FS to energy conversion. These technologies have been assessed for their suitability to use FS for resource recovery. The analysis also provides a plug and play tool to project developers to estimate the levelized cost of product/energy output from a given technology option.
3) Rapid Market Assessment for FS derived energy products - India:- This report provides an overview of potential markets for waste derived energy products in urban India. The findings are based on rapid market assessment and secondary data available in public domain. The values have been cross-checked with primary data collected during the study. The report includes an analysis of the value chains and market prices for various waste-to-energy products i.e. Bio-diesel, Biogas (Transport grade i.e. CNG), Compost, Waste derived solid fuel, Electricity and Synthesis gas (Syn Gas).
