Community Hygiene OBA (CHOBA) in Vietnam and Cambodia Various documents on results from research grant Various authors (2015)

This library entry contains background documents and results for a grant that Jeff Albert is leading and which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Further Information about the project is available on the discussion forum, see link below. The purpose is to significantly increase sanitation adoption and accelerate hygiene behavior change among rural poor communities in Vietnam and Cambodia. Short description of the project: The CHOBA program is intended to increase sanitation coverage and the adoption of safe hygiene practices in rural communities across Cambodia and Vietnam, dramatically scaling up a previous output-based aid (OBA) latrine program. Under CHOBA, East Meets West (EMW) teams in Vietnam and Cambodia work with local implementation partners to facilitate the purchase of hygienic toilets and septic systems by vulnerable households. Going door-to-door, CHOBA program personnel encourage households to build improved household sanitation facilities and connect them with both approved local construction contractors and consumer lenders. Households are offered a consumer rebate upon verification of a properly built and used toilet with an associated handwash station, and the program also offers conditional cash transfers for the achievement of community-wide improved sanitation coverage benchmarks. +++++++++++ Documents available for download below: 1 - Poster on Community Hygiene Output-Based Aid (CHOBA) at FSM3 Conference in Hanoi, January 2015 2 - Poster on CHOBA: Transmission Route (FSM3 Conference in Hanoi, January 2015) 3 - Poster on CHOBA: Blocking Transmission Route (FSM3 Conference in Hanoi, January 2015) 4 - Poster on CHOBA: Latrine with Offset Pit (FSM3 Conference in Hanoi, January 2015) 5 - Poster "Use latrine and wash hands with soap" (FSM3 Conference in Hanoi, January 2015) 6 - Gero, A., Willets, J.
