Lalitpur Metropolitan City is in Lalitpur District, Bagmati Province of Nepal. It has a total of 29 wards and covers an area of 36.12 km2. It is surrounded by Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the north, Godawari Municipality in the south, Mahalaxmi Municipality in the east and Kirtipur Municipality and Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the west.

According to the national population and housing census 2021, the metropolitan city has a total population of 294,098 and 77,159 households. The population density is 8,142 people/km2. A ward number 14 has the highest number of households with 6,149 and the highest population of 22,841 and ward number 5 has the least households with 983 and least population with 3,971 ​(NSO, 2023)​.

The SFD graphic shows that 11% of the excreta generated are safely managed while 89% are unsafely managed. The safely managed excreta generated by 10% of the population is temporary. So, once the containments get filled and FS from the containments is emptied, the percentage of unsafely managed excreta would increase.
