The 29th SuSanA meeting took place on Saturday, 22 February 2020 - just before the The African Water Association (AfWA) International Congress and Exhibition in Kampala, Uganda.  The meeting was convened by the SuSanA Secretariat in collaboration with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Water for People

The full-day meeting took place at Protea Hotel Kampala, Elgon Terrace, 9421 John Babiha (Acacia) Ave. 

The SuSanA networking dinner took place at The Great Indian Dhaba, Wampevo Avenue, starting from 7pm. 

#susana29 was the order of the day on twitter. (the SuSanA Twitter handle is @susana_org).

This SuSanA meeting laid emphasis on the following topics within the sessions:

  • Session 1: Introduction and overview of recent developments
  • Session 2:City-wide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) and the broader picture
  • Session 3:International and regional sanitation monitoring
  • Session 4:Systems strengthening in sanitation and hygiene

Moderated and expert-led group discussions (potential topics, tbc: Systems strengthening tools, fragile areas, citizen empowerment, resource recovery from FSM, equity and non-discrimination, gender, financing instruments/costing tools)

  • Session 5:Sanitation workers and progress in Faecal Sludge Management (FSM)
  • Session 6: Wrap-up & Outlook

Apart from the 29th SuSanA meeting, the SuSanA Working Group 4 (Sanitation Systems) and 6 (Cities) held a joint meeting on Monday 24th February 2020. The meeting provided a platform for learning & exchange on current WG activities and included topics such as city wide inclusive sanitation, SFDs and city service delivery assessment as well as source-to-sea management.
