Introducing Sustainable Sanitation in Kyrgyzstan An analysis of success factors and barriers Jorritsma, F., Fedtke, G., Ergünsel, A. (2009)

This case study presents the project approaches and the most important results. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with most UDDT owners (men, women or both); once during the building process and once when the toilets were in use. Data was crosschecked with Kyrgyz NGOs and key respondents in villages via informal interviews. In summer 2008, the project and results were evaluated and discussed by Kyrgyz partners together with WECF.The study shows that a successful implementation of Ecosan technologies should not only build on good quality of technical construction but also on adequate knowledge transfer and participation of interested persons.
